The carbon markets continue to grow. More landowners, farmers, and project developers than ever are exploring whether their climate interventions or carbon reduction might qualify for carbon credits. The interest is there; but earning cash from a carbon project is not always straightforward.
One of the most common and costly mistakes in carbon project development is spending significant time and money on certification before eligibility is assessed. Consultants get hired, fees get paid, paperwork gets filed, and then a fundamental blocker surfaces that could have been identified in the first week. That is the problem the Carbon Unity eligibility assessment was built to solve.
What is Carbon Unity?
The Carbon Unity tool suite is designed for project developers at any stage of the process, but specifically geared towards early stage project developers. Whether you are just starting to explore the concept or you have already begun developing your project, Carbon Unity gives you the information you need to make smarter, faster decisions.
The platform is being built out over time. Right now, eligibility assessments are live for biochar, clean cooking and ARR, and quantification is live for biochar and clean cooking, with ARR in private preview.
Here are the tools that are currently on offer.
- Check your eligibility. Answer a series of straightforward questions about your project, and Carbon Unity will assess whether it is likely to qualify for carbon finance and identify which methodology will be right for you. This includes surfacing any potential blockers early, before they become expensive problems.
- Quantification tool. If your project looks eligible, Carbon Unity can give you an indication of how many carbon credits you might be able to earn. This helps you understand the financial potential of your project before committing to a full feasibility study.
- Global project data. Browse existing carbon projects to understand what is already out there, how similar projects are structured, and what methodology those projects are using.
- Resource library. Carbon Unity brings together a curated library of resources to support project development, from methodology documents to industry guides and market assessments.
Why catching blockers early matters
Carbon certification is not a quick process. Depending on the standard and project type, it can take months and involve meaningful upfront costs. That is entirely worthwhile for a project that qualifies, but for one that does not, those costs are simply lost.
The eligibility criteria for carbon projects can be complex. Different standards have different requirements around additionality, permanence, baseline methodologies, and land tenure, among other things. A project might look promising on the surface but fall short on one specific criterion that rules it out entirely.
Carbon Unity is designed to flag these issues at the very start. Think of it as a first filter, a way to get a clear-eyed view of your project's viability before you invest further resources.
From eligibility to certification
For projects that do qualify, Carbon Unity is the beginning of the journey, not the end. Once you have confirmed eligibility, the next step is formal certification, and that is where deeper support comes in.
If you are ready to take your project through the certification process, we are here to help. The path from eligible project to verified carbon credits involves methodology selection, project documentation, third-party validation, and registry listing, among other steps. Having experienced guidance through that process makes a real difference.
